F.I.R.S.T. (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a partnership with local businesses and elementary school students to solve a problem.  Each team solves this problem by creating a robot that is used to compete against other elementary school teams from around the world.  This competition exposes them to mechanical, electrical, and software engineering, as well as, sales, marketing, and public speaking.

FIRST is not just robotics, it is about changing our culture.  It is about exposing students to the fact that it is more fun to create a video game than it is to play one.  The goal is to show kids that math, science, and technology careers can be fun, rewardable, and attainable.

In FIRST LEGO League (FLL), children are immersed in real-world science and technology challenges. Teams design their own solution to a current scientific question or problem and build autonomous LEGO robots that perform a series of missions. Through their participation, children develop valuable life skills and discover exciting career possibilities while learning

Elementary and middle-school students get to:

-  Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology
-  Apply real-world math and science concepts
-  Research challenges facing today’s scientists
-  Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills
-  Participate in tournaments and celebrations
